Heading out to a store in 2018 is a lot different to heading out to a store in 2008. If you were to walk into a store today, the use of technology is all around you. People taking snaps of a coat they have seen but cannot decide upon. People scanning barcodes to see if the ‘SALE’ option really is as good as is being stated.

The world is changing all the time, but is it true that mobile devices are a major influence on the way that we shop? Let’s take a look.

Mobile shopping – a changing industry

According to Signal Boosters UK and their latest infographic mobile devices play a HUGE role in transforming how you shop. For example, did you know that a lot of the people who you see in store glued to their phones are in the midst of doing something with regards to the very product in front of them?

It’s estimated that around 1/3 of our decisions to purchase will be made with the help of a smartphone. Think about it. If you were in a store in 2008, and you saw something for sale at good value, you would often just take it. Today? We would check it out online. You would want to see what people who already own said product have to say about it, giving you time to make a more conscious decision.

From looking at the product reviews to the features in more detail, we can learn more about the product. By the same token, you might look into other stores selling the same product. You might love the deal you are getting … but mobile shopping allows us to find out if that deal really is the best that we can get.

Mobile shopping – is it here to stay?

Alright, so it’s commonplace to do a bit of research on your window shopping. But do people tend to actually make a purchase using this method? Yes, quite often in fact. Many people will turn to mobile shopping because they know it allows them to get better value, and it’s expected that such numbers will continue to grow.

Indeed, at present, in 2018, its’ expected that over one third – 34% – of all of ours shopping sales will take place on an eCommerce platform. However, by 2021, this number is expected to have grown by a further 20%. This would mean that over half of all eCommerce sales will soon come from the mobile industry.

The ease of ordering, the quality of the products and the validity of the information out there makes online shopping a much more appealing experience. In fact, it’s one of the main reasons why so many people choose to take part: you can get more information and more ideas in a fraction of the conventional time.
