Menstruation is a natural part of a woman’s life. Sometimes these menstrual cramps become very painful and annoying for many women. These menstruation cramps can disturb your regular activities due to the pain. Cramping can cause a dull pain in the lower abdomen or, the lower back. It generally happens after the first two days of the period. Women suffer from menstrual cramps due to heavy bleeding during periods, smoking, alcohol and genetics. Here are some home remedies to ease the pain and discomfort caused by the cramps. These home remedies are effective or prevent the cramps.

Heat

Applying heat on the lower abdomen is a common way to reduce menstrual cramps. Heat relaxes the muscles in the uterus. Place a heating pad on your lower abdomen. Apply it until you feel comfortable. You can also soak a towel in hot water and place it on your lower abdomen. You will feel relaxed. Heat is a very effective remedy for reducing the cramping before period.

Tea

Some teas can help in relieving menstrual cramps as it contains some of the herbs which act like oestrogens. You can drink it for 2-3 times a day to get relief. Tea is very handy if you want to get rid of cramps before periods.

Papaya

Papaya is a useful remedy to get rid of cramps before period. Papaya contains an enzyme which helps in the blood circulation when women are having their mensuration time coming. Eat the papaya every day before and after menstruation.

Ginger

Ginger is a known herb for getting rid of cramps before period. The cramps can be avoided if you take ginger. Cut a small piece of ginger and mix it with boiling water for 5 minutes. Strain the tea and drink it three times a day before or during your period. It will help in reducing the cramps before period.

Parsley

Parsley contains two components which are very useful for menstrual cramps. If you are getting cramps before period, then have parsley. It can also help in regulating the irregular cycle. Put some fresh parsley in boiling water and steep it for five minutes and then strain the solution in a cup and drink the tea immediately. Drink parsley water twice a day to minimise the cramps before period.

Banana


Bananas are highly rich sources of potassium and they give relief from inflammation, bloating and also from the cramps before period.  Have at least two bananas every day to get rid of the pain and the cramps before period.

Fennel

Add one teaspoon of fennel seeds to a bowl of boiling water. Remove it from the heat and strain the fennel water in a cup. Add one teaspoon of honey in it and then drink it. You can drink this herbal tea twice every day before the beginning of your cycle to get rid of the cramps before period.

Carrot

Carrots are not only good for your eyes and skin but also for getting rid of the cramps before periods. Take out a glass of carrot juice and drink it once or twice every day to get rid of the cramps before period.

Basil

Basil is a very useful herb for reducing the cramps before period. It has pain-killing properties in it. Put some basil leaves in a cup of boiling water and then strain the water. Drink the tea twice every day to get rid of the cramps and the pain during or before menstruation.

Cinnamon

Cinnamon has anti-clotting and anti-inflammatory properties in it which help in getting rid of the cramps before period. It also has a lot of essential nutrients in it. Put some cinnamon powder in a cup of hot water and put a tablespoon of honey. Drink two to three cups of cinnamon and honey every day before your expected period date. It will reduce the cramps before period.
